Matadero, 100 Years

An installation of memory and light in Hall 0
Ciudadano Kien took on the artistic direction of this intervention in collaboration with the team of LaLAB, a collective for the creation, design and execution of cultural contents. Between 24 October and 17 November, Nave 0 - the former cold storage space of the Matadero in Madrid - was transformed into an site-specific installation that connected past and present through light, image and sound.
The installation invited visitors to look back on a hundred years of the history of the municipal slaughterhouse through an immersive experience that combined archive projections, specially created audiovisuals and lighting that inhabited the architecture of the place. More than 16,000 people visited this intervention, which reactivated the memory of the building and its emotional dimension as a public space.
